One summer. Two sworn rivals. And a twist they never imagined.

Nora Stephens' life is books.
Having read many, she has concluded that she is by no means the classic heroine we encounter in novels.
She's not unexpectedly brave, nor the girl everyone dreams of having, and she's certainly not sweet, innocent, or romantic.
In fact, the only people who see her as a heroine are her client authors, for whom she closes incredible deals, and her little sister Libby, who dotes on her.

For her sake, she agrees to spend their summer vacation in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina.
Libby has dreams for this trip.
Mainly, she believes Nora needs to start acting a little more carefree… more romantic.
But instead of picnics in the countryside or chance encounters with some charming country doctor or even a flirtation with the local pub's bartender, Nora keeps running into Charlie Lastra, a bookish, ambitious, and somewhat peculiar book editor.

At first glance, one would say it's a beautiful coincidence.
Except these two have met many times in the past, with no spark between them.

You see, Nora is not the ideal fictional heroine and Charlie is certainly not the classic hero we encounter in books.
But as they keep running into each other – thanks to a series of coincidences – they discover that sometimes the image we have of ourselves is nothing more than a well-crafted story.

"Even when you're on the last page of a book and you think you know everything... the story can find a way to surprise you."
