The first marathon runner

The Persian fleet threatens Athens, and Pheidippides undertakes to run to Sparta to ask for the Spartans' help. However, they are celebrating the sacred festival of Apollo, and it is forbidden for them to fight until the next full moon. Now Pheidippides must run back to Athens to inform the Athenians who are preparing for the great Battle of Marathon... How does Pheidippides' story end?
